After travelling overseas 4 years ago as a family of 5, there are things we will do differently when we depart for Europe in a week. Here are some things we will endeavour to change:
1) Pack less
2) Look at everything we have packed and halve it again
3) Buy a cheap kettle when we get there. European hotels rarely had a kettle with tea/coffee making facilities.
4) Pack more undies. It was notoriously hard last time to find a laundromat. At least we know our undies will be clean.
5) Stock up on plastic bags. Europe has gone green and supermarkets rarely pack in plastic bags. We need somewhere to put our dirty laundry until a laundromat can be found.
6) Ditch the car in the big cities and take the train.
7) Book rooms ahead. We were seriously over door-knocking at 10 pm to find vacancies.
8) As above but also try to find family rooms. The budget blew out when we had to book 2 rooms.
9) Invest in a GPS. Saves lots of arguments.
10) Tell our daughter to leave the mobile at home. We paid a small fortune last time in phone bills.
